The film came out in 1992, however in the series they carry straight on. The film is based in L.A. and centers around Buffy Summers, a cheerleader who goes out with a basketball player and is one of the most popular girls in the school (think Cordelia in the series). Then one day when Buffy was practising in the gym a strange man comes in talking about her destiny and how she is the chosen one. The man is Merrick, her watcher. Eventually Buffy is convinced and starts her training to help her defeat Lothos, the head vampire. Buffy gets help from the gorgeous drifter Pike and together they defeat all the vampires. At the end of the film the school gym is full of vampires (dead) but it is not burned down.
